Defense Secretary Meets with Afghan President

Agreement with Taliban is being reviewed.

Along with U.S. and coalition leaders, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin met with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul to review the agreement that had been made with the Taliban. The defense secretary indicated that the level of violence in Afghanistan has raised questions about the full withdrawal of U.S. forces in that country.

“I am here to listen and learn,” Secretary Austin said of the meeting. “It is obvious that the level of violence remains pretty high in the country. We’d really like to see that violence come down. If it does come down it can begin to set the condition for some really fruitful diplomatic work.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Biden’s diplomatic efforts between Afghanistan and the Taliban.
  • That God would give Secretary Austin wisdom as he meets with foreign leaders.
  • For peace in the Middle East.
